PACKET and SERVER Description
The PACKET and SERVER boards were built for a customer to implement the PostMaster algorithms at much lower power and to be extensible to much higher bandwidth. They are both cPCI boards to permit mounting within a commercial telecomm chassis.
Figure 1. PACKET Board
The PACKET board accepts inputs from six high-speed lines using the MindSpeed TSBUS. These inputs go into a MindSpeed CX28560 HDLC processor chip, which can extract packets from up to 2048 HDLC channels. The extracted packets are analyzed by a TMS320C5416 DSP chip, and only the email packets are forwarded to the PPC405GP processor for email processing.
Those email messages that meet certain criteria based on evaluating all the words within the header, body and attachments of each message are forwarded to the SERVER board.
Figure 2. SERVER Board
The SERVER board accepts selected email messages from up to 3 PACKET boards. They can be stored to local flash memory, and forwarded over Ethernet links to external units. This board uses a PPC405GP for processing. This board runs under Linux, so that it is easily able to interact with external TCP/IP-based networks.
